Junking

IMG_7675 (1).jpg

When I’m not painting, I’m digging through a dirty basement.

.Over the years I’ve become a regular at local estate sales, where you can search through a life of memories and rescue old things.

As a kid I was always on the look-out for treasure. Pop Art and the 70s gave birth to wild, bold and fun package & product design; The Uncola, racing decals, Peter Max, scented candles, posters, Wacky Packs, my over-sized red satin pencil pillow, rainbow nail decals, Snoopy earrings and Love’s Fresh Lemon…Some of my recent finds are from the 30s and 40s…postcards from the World’s Fair, a Wisconsin dells scrapbook, menus and ephemera from cruise ship excursions…Deco and emerging Modernism broke down traditional, stuffy design…advertising was sleek, artwork was daring, the palettes were rich.

Curating my collection around the house provides me with endless inspiration. The shapes and designs of the past occasionally work their way into my new paintings.
